We would never, ever want to replace Maynard. However, there was a day when we had quite a few family pets: two cats, two dogs, a bird, a hamster. Everyone has died of old age over the years, and our little family has been a bit human-heavy lately. We had talked about getting a second dog since we are on a farm now, but we usually let the universe bring us our pets, a policy that has not let us down yet.
This has been a difficult and heartbreaking couple of weeks, with the loss of my mother to her longtime terminal illness the most difficult in a series of challenging and painful events. It was a wonderful surprise when my dad knocked on our tiny house door last night with two little new friends for Maynard! Meet the children!
